Ένα «ελαττωματικό» αγόρι αντιμέτωπο με μια πολλαπλά φοβική και βίαιη ελληνική επαρχία. Αίμα από μπουνιά στο βιντεοπαιχνίδι και αίμα εκτός της οθόνης. Ένα αγόρι που δεν είναι καλό στο να είναι αγόρι και πρέπει να αλλάξει, να γίνει σκλάβος των επιθυμιών των άλλων. Ενώ εκείνο θέλει να είναι σκλάβα μόνο όπως η Britney Spears στο I’m a Slave 4 U, θέλει να χορεύει καμιά φορά όπως η Britney γιατί έχει πλάκα, χωρίς να φοβάται ότι θα το δείρουν. Μια τυπική ελληνική οικογένεια που με το πρόσχημα ότι θέλει το καλό του παιδιού της, δεν ξέρει ποιο είναι το καλό του παιδιού της. Ένα αγόρι που καταλήγει να δέρνει με τη ζώνη τα αρκουδάκια του, παίζοντας τον μπαμπά που φροντίζει τα παιδιά του. Παρόν και παρελθόν συγκρούονται: ένας βίαιος πατέρας που γίνεται daddy που γίνεται daddy issues. Τα Πόκεμον και η Σέιλορ Μουν της τηλεόρασης ως τα μεγάλα αφηγήματα της παιδικής ζωής, ως escapism σε έναν κόσμο πολύχρωμο. Και η ελπίδα για τη μεταμόρφωση σε κάτι άλλο, σε κάτι με φτερά, σε κάτι μακριά-από-εδώ.

Α “faulty” boy in a -phobic and violent rural greek city. Blood from a punch in a video game  and blood off-screen. A boy who isn’t good at being a boy and has to change, has to be slave to other people’s desires. While he only wants to be a slave like Britney Spears in I’m a Slave 4 U; he wants to dance like her because it is fun. A typical Greek family which on the pretence of having the boy’s best interest at heart, has absolutely no idea what’s good for him. A boy that ends up beating up his teddy bears using a belt, pretending to be a dad who takes care of his kids. Past and present collide: a violent father who becomes daddy who becomes daddy issues. Pokemon and Sailor Moon as the grand narratives of childhood, as a mean to escape in a colourful world. And the hope for the metamorphosis, to become something else, something with wings, something away-from-here.

Sam Albatros is a lecturer in psychology in London. they studied cognitive neuroscience in Paris (Paris-Sud XI), London (University College London) & Cambridge (University of Cambridge), as a scholar of the State Scholarships Foundation & the Leventis Foundation. they recently completed their doctoral thesis between London (University College London) & the United States (National Institute of Mental Health) funded by the Wellcome Trust. As Sam Albatros they have created multimedia performances & experimental short films screened in Greece, Cyprus, the UK and Berlin. in 2021 they received an award for their work in the visual arts sector by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation & Artworks. They have completed fully funded writing residences in Berlin (Literarisches Colloquium Berlin) and Leipzig (Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, HALLE 14, Edit). They are active in social media, they publish original & translated poems in video-poetry on YouTube (channel: Sam Albatros) & on the website they created queerpoets.com. in 2022, Crush, the iconic poetry book by Richard Siken will be translated to Greek by Sam Albatros (Polis publications). Faulty boy is their debut novel.

O Sam Albatros είναι λέκτορας ψυχολογίας στο Λονδίνο. σπούδασε γνωσιακή νευροεπιστήμη σε πανεπιστήμια του Παρισιού (Paris-Sud XI), του Λονδίνου (University College London) & του Κέιμπριτζ (University of Cambridge), ως υπότροφος του ΙΚΥ & του ιδρύματος Λεβέντη. Πρόσφατα ολοκλήρωσε διδακτορική διατριβή μεταξύ Λονδίνου (University College London) & Αμερικής (National Institute of Mental Health) με πλήρη υποτροφία από το διεθνούς φήμης ίδρυμα Wellcome Trust. Ως Sam Albatros έχει παρουσιάσει πολυμεσικές περφόρμανς & πειραματικές ταινίες μικρού μήκους σε Ελλάδα, Κύπρο, Αγγλία και Βερολίνο. ‘Εχει ολοκληρώσει fully-funded συγγραφικά residences στο Βερολίνο (Literarisches Colloquium Berlin) και τη Λειψία (Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, HALLE 14, Edit). Το 2021 βραβεύτηκε στον τομέα των εικαστικών από το Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος & Artworks. Έχει έντονη δράση στα social media, δημοσιεύει πρωτότυπα & μεταφρασμένα ποιήματα σε μορφή βιντεο-ποίησης στο YouTube (channel: Sam Albatros) & στην ιστοσελίδα που δημιούργησε queerpoets.com. το 2022 αναμένεται να κυκλοφορήσει σε μετάφραση Sam Albatros το εμβληματικό βιβλίο ποίησης Crush του Richard Siken (εκδόσεις Πόλις). το Ελαττωματικό αγόρι είναι το πρώτο τ@ μυθιστόρημα.
