A SHADED VIEW: MY LIFE IN FASHION / in production
A Shaded View: My Life in Fashion is a documentary that tells the story of legendary fashion pioneer, Diane Pernet. With her signature high hair tower, black mantilla, floor-length black dresses, platform shoes and sunglasses, her look is iconic and she is a fixture at fashion shows around the world. Millions religiously follow her trend-setting blog “A Shaded View on Fashion,” considered the first of its kind. She also created the first -- and now legendary fashion film festival, “A Shaded View on Fashion Film.”
All of that is on the surface. It is an important part of her story, but it is not her whole story. A Shaded View will dig deeper. It will be an intimate portrait of a survivor - a fascinating, multi-layered and complex woman who is fiercely independent and has dedicated her life to her work, often at the expense of personal relationships and financial stability.
With her trademark humor, grace, and inimitable sultry voice, Diane Pernet will take us on a labyrinthine personal journey. We will be with her as she tells us about her youthful suicide attempt, next to her as she reveals why she renounced romantic love at the age of 35, and her companions as she revisits memories of living in New York City in the 1970s and 1980s.
Along the way, she will regale us with stories of what fashion week is really like from the glitter of Paris to off-the-beaten-track places like Kazakhstan. From dishy stories of misbehaving editors, to being mistaken for Michael Jackson, to the inside scoop on some of the biggest fashion and art personalities, such as Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell, Andy Warhol and Anna Sui, the series will be filled with insider anecdotes that will enthrall even the most jaded fashion enthusiasts.
At the same time, A Shaded View will transcend the limits of the world of fashion. It will explore subjects such as love, loss, family, loneliness, creativity and art through the eyes of a modern woman who has never conformed to traditional stereotypes. It will be a dynamic and inspiring portrait of an amazing woman who worked tirelessly to build a name for herself and had the courage to live her life the way she saw fit, with no regrets.
In A Shaded View, Diane Pernet will finally lift the veil and tell her story in her own words.
