For the Queer Archive Festival, Stathis Mitropoulos presents two banner flags inspired by the human body and the dialogue raised the latest years around sexual identity. In contrary to, the widely held idea of the stereotypical block colours that countries use in their flags, his banner flags are coloured with a natural skin tone palette. He plays with the notion of diversity in terms of individual, collective, social and political concerns. If the flags, could abandon the stereotypical status quo related to the dipole of the “signified”-“signifier”, then what would be reminiscent of ourselves?
Stathis Mitropoulos is an Athens-based creative graphic designer and art director since 2001. He has collaborated with prestigious cultural institutions in Athens and his experience spans from publications, magazines, exhibition spaces, to artists, musicians, fashion brands and other local and international industries. Moreover, he has developed a personal practise through creative projects using flags and other mediums. He has participated in art projects, such as Kunsthalle Athena and ReMap, plus that he has experimented in stage design props for lgbtq+ parties and other events.
ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ
Για το The Queer Archive Festival o Στάθης Μητρόπουλος, παρουσιάζει δύο σημαίες που εμπνέονται από το ανθρώπινο σώμα και το διάλογο που έχει τεθεί τα τελευταία χρόνια γύρω από τη σεξουαλική ταυτότητα. Σε αντίθεση με την ευρέως διαδεδομένη ιδέα των στερεοτυπικών χρωμάτων που χρησιμοποιούν οι χώρες στις σημαίες τους, αυτές οι σημαίες έχουν την απόχρωση της φυσικής παλέτας και των τόνων του χρώματος του δέρματος. Ο δημιουργός παίζει με την έννοια της πολυμορφίας, γύρω από τις ατομικές, συλλογικές, κοινωνικές και πολιτικές ανησυχίες. Εάν οι σημαίες, θα μπορούσαν να εγκαταλείψουν το στερεότυπο status quo που σχετίζεται με το δίπολο του “signified” - “signifier”, τότε ποια θα ήταν η θύμηση του εαυτού μας;
Ο Στάθης Μητρόπουλος είναι δημιουργικός γραφίστας και καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής με έδρα την Αθήνα από το 2001. Έχει συνεργαστεί με αναγνωρισμένους πολιτιστικούς φορείς στην Αθήνα και η εμπειρία του εκτείνεται από εκδόσεις, περιοδικά και εκθεσιακούς χώρους έως καλλιτέχνες, μουσικούς, brands μόδας και άλλες τοπικές και διεθνείς βιομηχανίες. Επιπλέον, έχει αναπτύξει μια προσωπική πρακτική μέσα από δημιουργικά έργα που χρησιμοποιούν σημαίες και άλλα μέσα. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε art projects, όπως το Kunsthalle Athena και το ReMap, καθώς επίσης έχει πειραματιστεί στο σχεδιασμό σκηνικών για lgbtq+ parties και άλλες εκδηλώσεις.
